Coronado Beach, Coronado, California
Stretching 1.5 miles on a wide, sandy strip off San Diego, Coronado Beach is
popular for all water activities. Even architecture buffs and Hollywood history
fans will be intrigued by the Hotel Del Coronado, which sits in the background.
Built in 1888, this Victorian grande dame was featured in the Marilyn Monroe hit
"Some Like It Hot." And the main street of Coronado, about a mile long, feels
like small town America with manicured lawns and restaurants from brew pubs to
fine dining - reach it by ferry or soaring bridge from San Diego.
The beach is named in 3 different parts
South Beach – the beach just south of the Hotel Del with lots of history.
This site was the location of Tent City from 1900 – 1939, and at low tide you can see the hull
of the sunken gambling ship, the Monte Carlo. South Beach is adjacent to the
Navy Training facility, so don’t be surprised to see Navy Seals training in a distance.
Lifeguards are on duty.
Central Beach offers 1.5 miles of silvery white sand and waves of fun!
Great for swimming and beach activities for all ages with the main lifeguard tower,
6 volleyball counts- 2 with nets, public restrooms and beach showers close by.
Lifeguards are on duty. Mansions overlook this beach along Ocean
Boulevard adding to the special vibe.
North Beach -Located north of the main lifeguard tower, this area until attracts surfers in
the morning and offers fire rings bonfires at night. At the far north end is Dog Beach
where canine’s can play leash-free. Lifeguards are on duty; volleyball nets,
restrooms and human and dog showers are available.
