Baia do Sancho Fernando de Noronha, Brazil
After enduring months of one of the coldest, snowiest winters in recent memory,
some Americans can't wait for spring and summer. But it looks like even with spring on the way,
the weather might not warm up immediately.
For those sick of snow, slush and winter parkas, think about taking a vacation
to Baia do Sancho, a beach on an island to the northeast of the Brazilian mainland.
Baia do Sancho was named the best beach in the world by TripAdvisor.
The beach is appealing for a number of reasons, including the
sparkling emerald water, the coral reefs, and the solitude. In general the
Fernando de Noronha archipelago where Baia do Sancho is located is fairly empty,
and the best beach in the world is even more secluded due to the challenges
in reaching it.
If you're planning a trip to Brazil for the upcoming World Cup or the 2016
Olympic Games, be sure to check of Baia do Sancho and discover a
terrestrial paradise
A group of Brazilian journalists voted Sancho,
on an island 215 miles northeast of the Brazilian mainland,
the most beautiful of some 2,100 beaches in Brazil
Craggy cliffs loom 230 feet over a perfectly shaped crescent of squishy-soft sand;
trees carpet the cliff tops, giving refuge to sea birds; and lava rocks form protected
pools that shelter schools of Technicolor fish at either end of the blue-green water.
Best of all, it’s never crowded. All of the Fernando de Noronha archipelago is
fantastically empty, as the hyper-protected islands have room
for only about 700 tourists at once (along with fewer than 4,000 locals),
and those visitors have their choice of 17 beaches, most of which are
easier to reach than Sancho. A few small tour boats stop here in the morning,
but the best time for sunbathing is the afternoon
